Steven Ackerman captures portraits that are minimal and at the same time incredibly vivid. He has built an extensive portfolio of diverse subjects, shooting across the Western provinces and in North and South America. The Winnipeg-based photographer received his BFA from Syracuse University and worked for a number of years in New York City, assisting celebrated portrait photographers such as Philip-Lorca diCorcia and Ellen von Unwerth. Ackerman’s wider work has included dream-like night landscapes and collaborative still photography on a number of Guy Maddin films. His work has appeared in Canadian Art, Vice and The New York Times Magazine.
On Screen Manitoba is proud to present a new collection of portraits from Steven Ackerman at the OSM offices throughout the month of October. This exhibition will showcase professionals at work in Manitoba’s film and television industry, including producers, writers, actors and administrators. On Screen Manitoba works to represent, promote and grow the Manitoba media production industry by enabling growth and innovation. OSM actively pursues partnerships that celebrate Manitoba’s film, television and digital production community.
