Don’s photo at Kennedy and Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, kindly let us use the front area of the store to host the Media Launch for Flash Photographic Festival at 10am on June 24th 2014.
Jason Syvixay of the Downtown BIZ helped enormously by arranging the media to show up, the sound
system, BIZ patrol to hand out info sheets, and a podium. At the last minute Leif Norman got The Lab Works to print out a FLASH sign to make the event look official and picked it up one hour before the event started.
French CBC, and CTV television showed up with video cameras and interviewed Leif and a few others. SHAW, Metro and the Free Press could not make it, though ran stories later from the info given to them.
Sachit Mehra, Chairman of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ introduced Leif Norman and the festival by speaking to how art and culture are crucial to Downtown and Winnipeg in general.
Leif Norman then spoke about how Winnipeg was a Festival city, but oddly did not have a photo festival yet, and since everyone he told the idea to said it was a great one, it was decided to go ahead and make a new annual festival for Winnipeg.
Numerous names and venues were listed as participating in the festival and Leif took a group shot of the media scrum.
Neil Coligan from Classic 107FM and CJOB radio later interviewed Leif on the phone.
Jon Adaskin then took a group photo of everyone outside with his 100 year old Graflex 4×5 camera on black and white film.
