Lesley Nakonechny is a graphic designer, artist and photo-enthusiast based out of Winnipeg. She’s drawn to capturing nature scenes, as well as the urban jungle of downtown Winnipeg. Like most people nowadays, she shoots most of her photos digitally, but then takes an old-fashioned approach and develops her digital images as cyanotypes. It’s a photographic printing process that’s over 170 years old that produces a cyan-blue print. She was first introduced to cyanotypes a couple of years ago, and the blue colour struck a chord with her. The process uses sunlight to expose the print, so no fancy darkroom is needed. It’s practical and effective — much like Lesley. On occasion, she ‘tones’ her cyanotypes with tea to create beautiful sepia effects. Her teas of choice are green and black, although she’s not averse to using a little oolong now and again. Check her out online at www.lesnakodesigns.com
