“The unlike is joined together, and from differences results the most beautiful harmony”–Heraclitus
Returning to a photographic process of the mid–1800’s, cyanotyping seems like an unnecessary complication in the era of digital imagery. The required steps (film photography, film processing, paper coating with photosensitive solutions, sun exposure, and finally print washing) all offer opportunities for both abysmal failures and fabulous results.
The baking process is similar in it’s need for the ability to slow down, follow set procedures, and pay attention to details. Questioning how an end product was produced slips by the wayside as we delight in the act of consumption of either image or baked goods.
In collaboration with A L’Epi de Ble, baking and pastry-making tools are featured in this series of cyanotypes.
